Artistically motivated by the narrative of bi-culturism, Zuze is neither here nor there. Zuze is the experience of betweenness. Zuze is the shrinking distance connecting two worlds. Zuze is a trumpet howling a high C. Zuze is not a band, Zuze is not an audience. Zuze is the liminal space between the song and the dance. Zuze invites you to immediacy. Zuze loves you!

Dinner starts at 5:30pm, music at 7pm. Come early to get a table.
Please bring cash for the band - this is a pay-what-you-can show!

Since her travels to Canada in 2003 and her decision to set roots down here a few years later, Morales has been well known locally as a dynamic singer, percussionist and bandleader. However, it was the release of her debut solo album, the Juno-nominated Flores, Tambores e Amores, that brought national attention to this unique artist. Born and raised in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Aline began her performing career as a child training in capoeira, and by the time she reached her 20's, she had performed in a variety of traditional and modern bands including one of Brazil's most well-known maracatu groups, Nacao Estrela Brilhante do Recife led by Mestre Walter de Franca. Since her arrival in Toronto, she has been a tireless promoter of the traditional maracatu rhythms of Northeastern Brazil, performing with her 30-member percussion troupe, Baque de Bamba, at countless outdoor festivals, leading parades through Kensington Market in Toronto and even starring in Ontario Tourism's "There's No Place Like This" commercials.

Dinner starts at 5:30pm, come early to get a table.
Please bring cash for the band - this is a pay-what-you-can show!

Nhapitapi -- a Shona word meaning sweet sounds -- is a dynamic, six-piece ensemble of Zimbabwe musicians, singers, dancers and performers who expertly weave ancestral rhythms and melodies with contemporary African diasporic flavours, conjuring musical magic in their midst.

Nhapitapi's magnetic performances open with the healing serenity of mbira and marimba, both grounding and energizing. Vocals, shakers, hand drum, guitar, bass and drum set are then introduced, producing playful and complex layers of auditory enchantment. Once audiences have fully surrendered to this soaring soundscape, a deft duo of dancers hits the floor with unparalleled vigor and bold flirtation, drawing onlookers in to join the outburst of cathartic joy.

And so, we invite you with open hearts and arms to join us in song and dance, and you too will feel the breath of the lion on your neck.

There’s a comforting sense of familiarity in Tim Moxam’s music, like the feeling of a soft summer breeze after the passing of a cold, grey winter. It’s his soulful voice that floats over twangy acoustic guitar; his vivid storytelling of lost love; his breezy, warm atmospheric tones that swell and crash. He exists in a world that deftly explores the space between country-rock and folk, with a talent for carving out memorable melodies in unlikely places. On his debut LP, Soft Summer, Moxam shows he’s a singer-songwriter wholly of his own.

SEAN DONALD

The music Sean plays has travelled a long journey and has stood the test of time. Music that has moved with its people, changing and evolving along the way but still retaining its depth and purpose. Sean plays the folk music of Ireland, Scotland, England aswell as the forms they took on and collided with in North America, all of which has roots that go deep throughout many places and cultures. These are songs of the human experience, songs of love and loss, good times and hard and these are also the songs that he writes. Sean is a multi-instrumentalist but plays primarily the guitar and the 5-string banjo in a number of different styles, having learned a great deal on his own and from musical mentors and communities.

Kristine Schmitt writes bad-ass, gritty country-blues and oldtime tunes, and is the fiercest belter you ever did see. Nhapitapi

Nhapitapi is a dynamic 6 piece Zimbabwean Music Band based in Toronto.  Nhapitapi, meaning the essence of sweetness, draws on the Mbira (the Big thumb piano), an old spiritual instrument from Zimbabwe. Typically, Nhapitapi starts with the sound of three interlocking Mbiras. Then they stack up vocals, shakers, hand drum, drum set, bass and lead guitars, producing a unique brand of Chimurenga Sound (Liberation Sound). The effect is magical and invigorating, and when the time is right they throw in energetic dances to complete the party.
